One coffee bean can bring us closer. There are many ways of buying and selling coffee. Here at Coffee Island we have our own way, according to the values and principals of Direct Trade. We find the most unique varieties and come in touch with farms and producers from all over the world so that we can make them available to you.
We invest in a higher quality raw material, for the producers that we cooperate with and for our consumers to whom we want to offer the best coffee experience.
The concept is simple, build relationship of trust, through mutual respect and fair treatment while exchanging knowledge with our partners all over the world on coffee and its farming.
We support local producers that try to find new ways of improving their soil while also trying to protect the environment in which the work in. We respect and support the action to protect their natural sources while we share in their opinion that the a complex natural environment in relation to modern technological means can produce a coffee with unique flavor.
At the same time, we support their actions in providing better living conditions for people working on the farms. We approach their work matters with sensitivity as we do environmental issues. The basic factor is financial sustainability for all parties involved.
We create relationships based on trust and respect with each producer and we believe that us as well as they calculate the difficulties and costs of each side. Our goal is a financial agreement that answers each party’s requirement. This means higher prices for the producer and higher quality for us.
Coffee for us is personal business, so we talk directly to our producers and exchange knowledge and secrets on the production of every variety. We share our passion for coffee with people and we create relationships with them! We investigate each farm in great detail! With no middle men we travel all over the world and examine the factors that can affect every variety such as altitude, micro climate, soil temperature and annual rainfall in the area. By cupping we define and evaluate the flavor of each variety. We combine the human factor with our scientific method of selection so that we can ensure the best for our consumer.
This is how we evolved our project. While directly working with specific farms we produce varieties with complicated tastes and aromas and we present them to you. So far varieties we have introduced are the: Kenya AA, Colombia Huila, Ethiopia Mokha, El Salvador El Condor and the Costa Rica Tarazzu. All are different with special scents and flavors and all are enjoyable and unique.
Our direct trade Practice has led us to take the next step and contract specific areas in different parts of the world so that we can provide you with quality specialty coffees! We select these areas with great care so that we can ensure the quality of the products we offer you. Our first farm was Fazenda Nossa Senhora Aparecida in the Alta Mogiana area in Brazil.
There we planted our flag and by doing so we announce our goal for an immediate and long-term relationship with the specific area though a deal, based on mutual trust. We take part in the coffee production process and ensure the way it is harvested and processed.
We are especially proud if selecting this specific farm. Alta Mogiana is one of the most important coffee producing areas in the world and has a tradition if making high quality coffees ever since the beginning of the 20th century, it has been an important financial center and it led to create the special railway station that helps with the transportation of its goods, leading to the development of a “coffee road”!
Its altitude provides the best conditions for growing Arabica varieties with exquisite flavors, balanced acidity and natural sweetness. Its producers devote passion to the cultivation of high quality coffee and that is why they employ special techniques that promise a great result.
The particular exclusive deal is one of the most characteristic examples of what we want to accomplish with our Direct Trade deals. Ensure the identity of our varieties and offer sustainability to the farms.
We constantly explore new developing areas that will allow us to track down new varieties and offer them to you. Stay tuned to learn news on our new travels and our new partners all over the world!
