DOWNLOADEaster is the biggest celebration of Christianity and especially in our country it is celebrated with great enthusiasm and with different customs and cultures from place to place.
In the New Testament, no information is recorded about the way the members of the first Christian church observed the feast of the Resurrection. The first "lilac dispute" about the annual celebration of the Christian Easter, that is, the Resurrection, appeared in the 2nd century. The churches of Asia Minor followed the ancient John "four-seventeenth" practice, observing the "Last Supper" on an annual basis on the same date as the Jewish Passover.
Christian Easter is believed to have its roots in the Jewish Passover. Passover was the first of the three annual major Israel festivals celebrated in early spring. The word Easter is a Greekized version of Passover and means Passage. The Jews celebrate their passage through the Red Sea and their liberation from pharaonic slavery.
Christians celebrate Easter, the resurrection of Christ and their deliverance from sin and death. The mournful atmosphere of Holy Week and the joy that follows it on the night of the Resurrection are not experienced with the same excitement and the same enthusiasm by the whole of Christendom. The Orthodox Church emphasizes the resurrection of the Lord, while the Western Church mourns his death.
Folk customs during the modern celebration of the Resurrection in Greece, include dinner with main meal the cook, the night of the Resurrection, the cracking of red eggs, the "kiss of love" at the time of the Resurrection, the roasting of the lamb on Sunday Easter and other events.
It is celebrated uniquely throughout Greece where there are various customs and cultures.
